On April 1, representatives from the Sealy Center on Aging (SCOA) attended the 1st Annual Gulf Coast Consortia Aging and Geroscience Symposium, a collaborative event highlighting innovative research and interdisciplinary approaches to aging and geroscience across the region.

SCOA was represented by Alice Williams, MS, LBSW, and Lexi King, MS, Program Manager at UTMB’s Sealy Center on Aging. The symposium brought together leaders in aging research to share advancements that support healthier aging and improved quality of life for older adults.

Two engaging sessions from The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) were featured:

  • The Texas Aging and Technology (Age-Tech) Initiative at UTMB, Presented by Missy Morrow, PhD This session explored how emerging technologies are being leveraged to support aging populations and enhance independence, care delivery, and well-being.
  • The Role of Social and Ethical Dimensions of Biomarkers of Aging in the Advancement of Geroscience, Presented by Alberto Aparicio, PhD Dr. Aparicio discussed the importance of ethical and social considerations in aging biomarkers and their growing role in advancing geroscience research.

The symposium was chaired by Dr. Landay, whose leadership helped guide meaningful dialogue and collaboration among aging and geroscience professionals throughout the Gulf Coast region. SCOA is proud to participate in events like this that strengthen partnerships, advance research, and support innovation in aging. We appreciate the opportunity to be part of this inaugural symposium and look forward to continued collaboration.
