La Kesha Golliday Honored with Village Keeper Award, UTMB Commemorates Juneteenth
La Kesha Golliday, a Clinical Research Coordinator at the Sealy Center on Aging, has been recognized with a Village Keeper Award from the NIA Cultural Center in Galveston—the birthplace of Juneteenth. The award highlights her dedication to community impact and purposeful service, values reflected in the meaning of “NIA,” which stands for purpose.
Through her work in aging research, Golliday is committed to improving lives and advancing knowledge that benefits older adults. As she recently shared in the Community Connection Newsletter, “The greatest benefit of working with aging research is understanding that our dedication is an important piece of making the world a better place.”
Her recognition underscores the important role of research professionals in strengthening communities and advancing meaningful change.
The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) will commemorate Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, 2026, with adjusted hours across our campuses. In observance of this holiday, UTMB schools, business areas, administrative areas, and many clinics will be closed. Please review Upcoming Holiday Hours at the UTMB website if you’re planning to visit us.
We encourage you to take this time to celebrate freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of purpose. As a federal holiday, Juneteenth invites us to reflect on history while honoring those who continue to make a meaningful impact in our communities.
