Presented by Erin Hommel, MD, MS
Dr. Erin Hommel is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. She completed her residency and fellowship at Duke University Hospital, where she served as Chief Resident, and is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. She is an Associate Professor in the Division of Geriatrics, where she serves as attending faculty on the ACE Unit, for inpatient geriatric consults, and in the geriatric outpatient clinic. From 2020–2023, she was an OAIC Research Scholar studying implementation science, building on years of clinical quality improvement work focused on care for older adults across the continuum. Her current research uses the electronic health record to identify trajectories of functional decline among older adults, pairing risk identification with clinical decision support to connect high-risk individuals with evidence-based care. Dr. Hommel was recently named Vice Chair for Ambulatory Services within the Department of Internal Medicine, where she will work to enhance the equity, efficiency, and quality of outpatient care.
