Pilot Trial on Audio Recording for Self-Management in Older Adults Paves the Way for Future Research

Dec 12, 2024, 12:26 PM by SCOA

A new article by aging researchers has been published in Patient Education and Counseling detailing the “AUDIO” Pilot Trial. This study tested the processes for a larger trial exploring how audio recordings of primary care visits could enhance self-management among older adults with multimorbidity. The trial was led by Dr. Masel, Dr. Goodwin, Isamar Ortiz, and Dr. Raji.

Other contributors include healthcare providers in the Division of Geriatrics who enrolled patients, allowing researchers to test methods and gain valuable insights into this approach. The success of the pilot has led to two federally funded longitudinal grants to further investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of sharing digital audio recordings with older adults in primary care settings.

The next phase will focus on assessing the acceptability, feasibility, and potential benefits of this strategy for improving health outcomes in this vulnerable population.
