Congratulations to Dr. Mehta on Distinguished Research Professorship

The Sealy Center on Aging is pleased to share that Neil K. Mehta, PhD MA MSc, Associate Dean for Research, Professor and Inaugural Chair, Department of Epidemiology, has been appointed to the Sheridan Lorenz Distinguished Professorship in Aging and Health at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB).

His appointment is effective April 1, 2026, through March 31, 2031. This distinguished endowment recognizes Dr. Mehta’s outstanding leadership and contributions to aging and population health research. In addition to his academic appointments, Dr. Mehta is a Core Leader of the Pilot/Exploratory Studies Core for the UTMB Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC).

A nationally recognized demographer and epidemiologist, Dr. Mehta's research examines population health, aging, and mortality, with a focus on understanding the factors that influence health and longevity across diverse populations. Through his innovative research, leadership, and commitment to advancing scientific discovery, he has helped strengthen UTMB's reputation as a leader in aging and public health research. Dr. Mehta's appointment reflects the Sealy Center on Aging and UTMB Pepper Center's commitment to supporting exceptional researchers whose work advances healthy aging and improves the lives of older adults.
