Dr. Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology. He is a demographer and sociologist with research interests in geographical health disparities, impacts of early exposure to residential segregation and perceived discrimination on health in later life, and opioid use disorder and Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia (ADRD) among older adults. He has served as a co-principal investigator for a NSF interdisciplinary collaboration project to investigate how to simultaneously preserve spatial data confidentiality and maintain statistical utility and a NIA-supported supplement project that explores how older adults’ living arrangement shapes the risk of ADRD. In addition, he has investigated the geographical disparities in colorectal cancer and treatment in Appalachia as a co-investigator on two NCI-funded projects. His publication record has demonstrated his expertise in the area of spatial demography, health effects of residential segregation, racial/ethnic health disparities, and geographical inequalities in opioid-related outcomes.
