The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) offers a distinguished, one-year, ACGME-accredited program with a specialized focus on burn care, certified by the American Burn Association (ABA). Fellows gain unparalleled experience managing critically ill patients across diverse clinical environments, including rotations in the Burn ICU, Surgical ICU, and Cardiac ICU.
A hallmark of the program is the opportunity to train at UTMB's Shriners Children's Hospital, a globally renowned center for pediatric burn care, where fellows manage extensive burns in children using cutting-edge techniques. This complements exposure to adult burn care at UTMB's ABA-verified Burn Center.
The program emphasizes a robust and comprehensive educational experience. Fellows participate in extensive cadaver labs, high-fidelity simulation training, weekly critical care lectures, and hands-on focused ultrasound training to master advanced diagnostic and procedural skills. Research opportunities are also available, allowing fellows to contribute to advancements in critical care and burn treatment.
This program is ideal for surgeons seeking to develop expertise in burn care while mastering the full spectrum of critical care surgery, supported by a multidisciplinary team committed to compassionate and high-quality patient care.
