Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship

The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch proudly offers a one-year Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship. This prestigious program delivers advanced, hands-on training in head and neck microvascular reconstruction. Fellows benefit from comprehensive exposure to the full spectrum of modern reconstructive techniques, including cutting-edge virtual surgical planning and 3D printing technologies.

The fellowship combines intensive clinical experience with a year-long curriculum focused on the latest breakthroughs in reconstructive surgery. Our mission is to deliver world-class CMF microsurgery training while developing the next generation of leaders and innovators in the field—both nationally and internationally.

The fellowship is partially sponsored by AOCMF, providing fellows with opportunities to participate in AO Fellowship courses and webinars. These experiences foster the exchange of knowledge with colleagues from around the world and help fellows build lasting relationships with surgeons across various specialties. Additionally, fellows will attend at least one national meeting per year, tailored to individual interests and availability.

The fellowship year is designed to be a dynamic and immersive surgical experience, emphasizing the refinement of both clinical and operative skills while also supporting robust research involvement. Fellows are encouraged and expected to participate in research projects related to head and neck oncology and microsurgery. UTMB provides outstanding opportunities for both clinical and anatomical research based on each fellow’s interests.

Finally, this is a surgically focused fellowship. Our primary goal is to prepare fellows to become highly skilled microvascular surgeons, capable of managing complex clinical scenarios, offering personalized treatment plans, conducting independent research, and excelling as leaders in academic medicine.
