Congratulations to Dr. Hisham Marwan and Dr. Camilo Mosquera, along with a collaborative associate, on the publication of their abstract in the Journal of Clinical Medicine titled, “The Contemporary Role of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons in Head and Neck Reconstructions.”

The publication highlights the unique and evolving role of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), a specialty that bridges medicine and dentistry to address complex head and neck reconstructive challenges. The review examines the historical foundations of reconstruction, current surgical practices, and emerging innovations that are shaping the future of patient care.

From the earliest reconstructive techniques developed in ancient civilizations to modern advances in microvascular surgery, dental rehabilitation, and advanced imaging, the field has continually progressed to improve both functional and aesthetic outcomes for patients. The authors also explore promising technologies—including patient-specific 3D-printed implants, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, artificial intelligence, and supermicrosurgery—that have the potential to transform surgical planning and reconstructive outcomes.
