Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD, president of The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and CEO of the UTMB Health System, has been selected as one of the Houston Business Journal’s Most Admired CEOs in recognition of his leadership and strategic vision.
The annual awards program honors executives who demonstrate excellence in leadership, drive strong organizational performance, and make meaningful contributions to their communities. This year’s honorees are leaders from across industries who are shaping the future of Houston through innovation and collaboration.
Under Reiser’s leadership, UTMB has strengthened its position as a leader in healthcare, education, and research. A key accomplishment over the past year has been the launch of a brain health initiative designed to align clinical care, research, and innovation.
“This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our faculty, staff, and students, who are committed every day to improving health and advancing knowledge,” Reiser said. “Together, we are building new models of care, discovery, and collaboration that extend beyond traditional boundaries.”
Reiser has also guided the continued expansion of the university’s clinical and academic footprint, including growth at its League City campus to improve access to care and support workforce development. He has advanced institutional priorities that integrate research, innovation, and community health, including initiatives that promote long-term well-being and population health.
“Our strategy is centered on connecting science, care, and community in ways that create lasting impact,” Reiser said. “By bringing together expertise across disciplines and forming strong partnerships, we are positioning our institution to lead in areas that will define the future of health and the global economy.”
Beyond organizational strategy, Reiser has elevated the visibility of UTMB locally and globally through partnerships, thought leadership, and participation in major international forums.
The Houston Business Journal’s Most Admired CEO Awards celebrate leaders who not only achieve results but also foster a culture of integrity and long-term growth across the region.
Honorees will be recognized on Aug. 27 at a special event.
