Dr. Díaz-Venegas received his PhD degree in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. During his doctoral studies, he worked as graduate research assistant with the research team of the Hispanic Established Populations for the Epidemiologic Study of the Elderly (H-EPESE). Dr. Díaz-Venegas' research interests are mortality, aging, and health issues in Mexico as well as the Mexican-American community in the United States. As a postdoctoral fellow at UTMB, Dr. Díaz-Venegas examined the connection between sociodemographic and economic factors (e.g., life course stage at migration, educational attainment, income, etc.) and outcomes such as physical and mental disability, depression, prevalence of chronic illness, financial strain, among others, in order to gain better understanding of the aging process in Mexico.
