Volunteering

BCSO members volunteer for a number of charitable events such as the Osler Society Halloween Carnival, the Holiday Toy Drive and the University of Texas United to Serve Day.
Holiday Toy Drive

Each year, in November and early December, UTMB as an institution volunteers to help unprivileged children that are under the care of Child Protective Services of Galveston County. The BCSO participates by collecting donations, purchasing and wrapping toys. Many of the children would not receive Holiday presents if not for this toy drive. It is a small effort with big rewards, knowing that we have brightened the holidays and put smiles on the faces of these children!

Halloween Carnival

Every October the BCSO sponsors a booth at the annual Osler Society Halloween Carnival held in the Moody Library Plaza. The carnival is free and provides a safe place for local children and children in the hospitals and Ronald McDonald House to trick or treat and play games.

Beach Cleanup

The BCSO participates in the University of Texas United to Serve day in April by volunteering to help clean up Galveston's beaches. It is a small way to give back to the community that supports UTMB.

Holiday Food Drive

Every year in November the BCSO participates in the Holiday Food Drive to collect donations for local disadvantaged families. This is another small effort that brightens the holidays for those who are less fortunate.
