Susan C. Weller, PhD., is Professor of Preventive Medicine and Community Health. She has published a series of meta-analyses on the effectiveness of condoms in reducing the sexual transmission of HIV. In 1999, a meta-analysis published in Family Planning Perspectives found that condoms reduced the risk of contracting HIV by approximately 80%. In 2000, the study was redone (funded by the Horizons Project of the Population Council) for the Cochrane Libraries of meta-analyses. Dr. Weller's other research interests concern the measurement of beliefs about AIDS and other diseases (funded by the National Science Foundation).
