| Research Interests: |
Dr. Martin Myers, former director for the Department of Health and Human Service’s National Vaccine Program Office (NVPO), works with academicians, vaccine manufacturers, legislators and communities as the Sealy Center for Vaccine Development’s Associate Director for Public Health Policy and Education. He is developing a program to make vaccines more available. For example, eight of the 11 vaccines routinely recommended for children are in short supply. In addition, the SCVD is concerned with the development of new vaccines, some of which are intended for small target populations which makes these vaccines less commercially attractive to produce. By working with the Federal and State leadership, vaccine manufacturers, and other stakeholders he will assist setting priorities for making more of the vaccines we need most. Other vaccine policy issues that Dr. Myers and the SCVD will address are assessing the safety and benefits of new and experimental vaccines, considering barriers that keep people from getting the vaccines they need, and national influenza pandemic preparedness.
