Amy Gonzalez, MD, FAAPAssociate Professor

Dr. Amy Gonzalez is a Pediatric Hospitalist and Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM). She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, TX. She completed her Pediatric Residency training at the University of Texas Medical Branch and served as Chief Resident the following year. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics. 

In addition to improving the efficiency and quality care of hospitalized children, Dr. Gonzalez has a special interest in medical student and resident education. Dr. Gonzalez is active in medical student pre-clinical years as POM 1 facilitator, serves  on the POM 2 course committee as the Pediatric Clinical Experience lead and is a faculty mentor for the Physician Healer Scholarly Concentration. She serves on the Undergraduate Medical Education Committee in Pediatrics and teaches man third year students on the wards completing their inpatient rotations. Dr. Gonzalez has a particular interest in post-clerkship education and directs the 4th year Acting Internship in PHM and is the Co-Director for the fourth-year required Transition to Residency Course. She serves on the POM 3/4 course committee and is a POM 4 facilitator. Dr. Gonzalez serves on the JSSOM Admissions Committee, JSSOM Electives Course Committee and is a faculty mentor for the Truman J. Blocker Osler Student Society. 

Dr. Gonzalez is also active in resident education serving on the Graduate Education Committee in Pediatrics, as an individual faculty and research mentor and as director of the resident rotations in PHM. She enjoys interactive learning at the bedside and also used medical simulation to enhance clinical skills. Dr. Gonzalez is participant of the UTMB Scholars in Education program and received the Pediatric Educator Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education in 2022.

Dr. Gonzalez was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2022.
