Jong Lee, MDProfessor, Department of Surgery

Dr. Jong Lee is a Professor of Surgery in the Division of Burn, Trauma & Acute Care Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He serves as the Program Director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship and Burn Fellowship at UTMB. & He is a holder of the Annie Laurie Howard Chair in Burn Surgery and is an Associate Director of Burn Services. He is also a Medical Director of Burn Intensive Care Unit at the Shriners Children, Texas.

Dr. Lee received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He went on to complete general surgery residency at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center/Temple University in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He then completed fellowships in Burn Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at UTMB. After finishing his fellowship, he joined the UTMB faculty in the Department of Surgery in 2002.

Dr. Lee is active in teaching students, residents, and fellows. He received six teaching awards from the Department of Surgery. He was selected as Faculty Scholar of McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine at UTMB in 2018.

He has served on multiple education-related committees at the national level including Society of Critical Care Medicine, Association for Surgical Education, American Burn Association, Surgical Critical Care Program Directors Society, and American Society or Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.

He was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2021.
