Era Buck, PhD is a Senior Medical Educator and Associate Professor of Family Medicine at UTMB. She completed a BS in Education at the University of Texas at Austin and received her MA and PhD in social psychology from the University of Houston.   During twenty years in undergraduate and graduate medical education, her work has focused on faculty development, program evaluation, and educational research.   She is a UT Distinguished Teaching Professor, a member of the Academy of Master Teachers and the Shine Academy of Health Science Education.

Her direct teaching responsibilities include working with students in the SEACHange curriculum in the and in the Physician Healer track. She provides faculty development sessions as a faculty member for the Scholars in Education program, the Scholars in Healing program as well as the Teaching skills series.  She also conducts faculty development workshops at national and international conferences.

 She is currently engaged in research in the areas of professional identity formation and humanism in medical education with numerous publications and presentations on those topics. She also serves as an associate editor for Medical Education Online and reviews for numerous conferences in medical education.

 At UTMB, she serves as co- vice chair of the Education Research Committee for the John Sealy School of Medicine, Associate director of the Physician Healer Track and enjoys consulting on the design and analysis of education research.

Dr. Buck was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2012.
