Dr. Olson is an  Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Medical Branch, and a holder of The University of Texas Distinguished Teaching Professor title.

Dr. Olson holds the position of Medical Student Clerkship Director and is responsible for all aspects of medical student teaching and the format of the clerkship. Her lectures are consistently well received by students and residents and demonstrate a high level of educational scholarship. She serves as a mentor for residents in the area of clinical research and many of the outcomes have been presented at national and international meetings.

Dr. Olson also served as the Residency Medical Director of UTMB's Regional Maternal Child Health Programs and was instrumental in aligning guidelines in medical practices for the regional clinics. As an invited speaker at national meetings such as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and at educational symposiums of other universities, Dr. Olson exhibits excellent teaching skills. Currently serving as Secretary-Treasurer for the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, she previously held the position of Program Director for their national conferences. After rigorous peer-review, she was selected as an inaugural member of the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers.
