Dr. Monique Ferguson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Texas A&M University, College Station; her PhD from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston. She completed her postdoctoral training at UTMB in the Department of Human Biological Chemistry and Genetics.
Currently, Dr. Ferguson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, and a certified lifestyle coach in the Diabetes Prevention Program at UTMB.
As an educator Dr. Ferguson has extensive teaching experience with a broad range of learners including undergraduates, medical students, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and clinical fellows. She is recognized as a University of Texas Distinguished
Teaching professor and Scholar in Education. Dr. Ferguson's teaching has been acknowledged with receiving AMT Educator of the Month award in 2020, and Excellence in Teaching Awards in the Division of Infectious Diseases in years 2018, 2019,
2020 and 2021. She was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2019 and is currently the Mentoring and Consultation Team Leader.
She enjoys global traveling, and biking and hiking with her husband and son.
Dr. Ferguson was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2019.
