Dr. Patricia Rogers is a creative and enthusiastic educator who has made significant contributions to the teaching mission of the university. She serves as a mentor and faculty preceptor for numerous residents in the Department of Pediatrics as well as
medical students, acting interns, and nurse practitioners. She has contributed to the implementation of curricular improvements, and also developed a resource for both Pediatrics and Family Medicine clinics entitled “Pat’s Pearls”
that is used by the house staff to address specific clinical topics. Her extensive activities in teaching include serving as a mentor for the Renee Leannec Osler Student Society. In recognition of her exemplary teaching, Dr. Rogers received the Teacher
of the Year Award of Excellence from the residents of Family Medicine for 2000-2001, the Department of Pediatrics’ Golden Rattle Award for the Excellence in Clinical Teaching in 2005. She was one of the inaugural recipients of the John P. McGovern
Academy of Oslerian Medicine Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award in 2005, and received this award again in 2010. In 2009 the UT Board of Regents named her a Distinguished Teaching Professor for making significant contributions to education. She
also received the Pediatric Educator Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education.
Dr. Rogers is a gifted and caring pediatrician with a special affinity for child health and advocacy. She has been listed among the Best Doctors in America from 2005 to presently. Sought locally for her leadership, Dr. Rogers has served on the Board of
Directors for the Galveston County Health District from 2002-2014 and continues to be active in the Galveston community through her participation in numerous health related activities. She received the Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award for her
important contributions within the UTMB community. In 2011 she received the Unsung Hero in Health Care Award from the Galveston Branch of NAACP.
After graduation from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Rogers earned her MD degree from
The University of Tennessee College of Medicine at Memphis in 1981. Following completion of her residency training at UTMB in Pediatrics as Chief Resident, Dr. Rogers
spent 13 years in private practice in Plano, Texas. She returned to UTMB in 1998 as a faculty member in the Departments of Pediatrics and Family Medicine and continues to lead as well as serve on various committees at UTMB. Statewide, she is active
with the Texas Pediatric Society. Nationally, she has been active with various organizations and has served as a “key contact” for legislative issues involving healthcare reform with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Rogers received her second Golden Rattle Award from the residents in 2014 for Excellence in Clinical Teaching. She has served on the curriculum committee. In 2014 she became a John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine William Osler Scholar.
In 2017, she was chosen by the Academy of Master Teachers’ selection committee to be the recipient of The Joseph T. Painter Distinguished Professorship in Teaching Excellence. Dr. Rogers has received 2 Educator of the Month Awards from
the AMT, most recently in February, 2019. In 2022; she was recognized as Clinician of the month by the Academy of Master Clinicians. Dr. Rogers continues to be featured in the Texas Monthly Magazine as a Super Doctor selected by her peers. She
is currently in the Hall of Fame. The most recent Super Doctor Award was December 2023.
Dr. Rogers was inducted into the Academy of Master Teachers in 2007.
