Yolanda Davila, PhD, RN Professor

2015 AMT Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Davila has over 25 years of experience working as a SON faculty within the UT System. She has taught theory and research, psychiatric mental health and community health nursing to undergraduate and graduate nursing students at UTHSCSA. Currently, Dr. Davila teaches across the UTMB School of Nursing online programs. She developed and teaches the MSN public health principles, DNP population health and PhD concepts and theory in nursing courses. She also serves as Chair or member of numerous SON dissertation committees and faculty of PhD independent studies. Dr. Davila has received departmental and university funding for her educational research on the teaching of intimate partner violence prevention to healthcare professionals and community-dwelling women with research findings and similar clinical activities published in educational nursing journals.

Dr. Davila has received numerous teaching awards in recognition of her teaching expertise. Her honors include induction into the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers earning her the designation as a UT System Distinguished Teaching Professor, AMT Lifetime Achievement Award, Joseph T. Painter Distinguished Professorship in Teaching Award and the Silver Medalist of the Houston Good Samaritan Award. Her most recent honors are induction into the Shine Academy (Spring 2018) and recipient of the UT System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award (Fall 2018).

Dr. Davila a life-long learner, has recently completed a Professional Certificate of Online Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison along with a cultural healthcare course from the same institution.
