Center for Health Promotion, Performance, and Rehabilitation Research (CHPPRR) supports a collaborative community of scientists and clinicians at UTMB dedicated to the advancement of health promotion, performance, and rehabilitation research.

The Center is committed to creating relationships among basic, clinical, and translational scientists to apply research findings for the benefit of persons with disability, health inequities, and chronic disease across the lifespan and their families, caregivers, and communities.

CHPPRR was established in 2022 to meet the growing need of the UTMB research community in health promotion, performance, and rehabilitation research. Our core research areas are Health Across the Lifespan, Learning Health Systems & Health Services Research, Patient-Centered Health & Community Outcomes, Health Promotion, and Neuromotor Control & Performance.

Women's Health Disparities Across the Life Course

On Thursday, September 26, over 60 faculty, administrators and staff attended the CHPPRR Lecture series to hear Dr. Latie Hickerson from the UTMB School of Nursing discuss the multifaceted disparities in women's health that are often rooted in socio-economic, cultural, and biological factors. Her presentation hi-lighted women's health disparities across the life course, with a special focus on maternal health outcomes. Dr. Hickerson exposed the audience to a unique program that supports justice-involved birthers and outlined her proposed program of research in support of investigating the multifaceted biobehavioral, social and structural factors influencing women's health disparities.

Dr. Latia Hickerson is a PhD prepared, women's health nurse practitioner, nursing faculty at the UTMB School of Nursing, and the coordinator of the BSN Honors' Program: Health Equity and Advocacy Track, which produces BAMBI Advocacy Student Scholars (BASS Scholars). Dr. Hickerson is passionate about bridging the gap between women's health and public health and is an advocate for improving maternal and women's health outcomes.
