We are thrilled to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our John Sealy School of Medicine students following the 2026 Match cycle. This year, our graduating class achieved an outstanding 100% match rate, significantly surpassing the national NRMP U.S. MD Senior Match rate of 93.5%.
Of the 213 students who entered the Match, future residents will be heading to 26 different states, with the highest numbers in Texas, followed by California, North Carolina, Louisiana, and New York.
Our impact remains deeply rooted in Texas, with 63% of students matching within the state, including 35% within the UT System and 16% remaining right here at UTMB.
Our students continue to champion the future of healthcare, as primary care accounted for 41% of matches. The most represented specialties overall—Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Family Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Psychiatry—reflect both the remarkable strength and the diversity of our graduating class.
