The Office of Institutional Effectiveness has been working closely with Student Support Services leadership and staff to develop Section 12 of the SACSCOC report, which focuses on UTMB’s commitment to student support and success. This section addresses six key standards:
12.1 Student Support Services: The institution provides appropriate academic and student support programs, services, and activities consistent with its mission.
12.2 Student Support Services Staff: The institution ensures an adequate number of qualified academic and student support services staff with appropriate education or experience in student support service areas to accomplish its mission.
12.3 Student Rights: The institution defines, publishes, and disseminates policies regarding student rights and responsibilities.
12.4 Student Complaints: The institution maintains fair, accessible, and published procedures for resolving student complaints.
12.5 Student Records: The institution maintains the security, confidentiality, and integrity of student records.
12.6 Student Debt and Financial Literacy: The institution provides resources and information to assist students in understanding and managing educational debt.
Developing this section has required strong collaboration across campus, with OIE coordinating narrative reviews and supporting documentation that demonstrates UTMB’s ongoing efforts to provide high-quality academic and student support services.
We appreciate the continued partnership of the Registrar’s Office, Student Financial Services, Enrollment Services, Admissions & Records, Student Counseling, Student Life, Student Success Center, Student Wellness, Legal and Regulatory Affairs, and the Office of Information Security. We recognize the many competing priorities across these units and are grateful for their engagement and support.
We’re excited to share that Section 12 is now approximately 90% complete!
