Dear Colleagues,
It was a joy to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of our faculty at last month’s Faculty Recognition Reception. Thank you to all who joined us to recognize the dedication, innovation, and expertise that drive our missions forward. I hope the evening served as a meaningful reminder of the value and impact of your contributions.
This is an especially fitting time to reflect on this impact, as we celebrate the 135th anniversary of UTMB. The achievements we recognize today will inspire future generations and determine how UTMB is remembered for years to come. The legacy of UTMB has always been shaped by its people – from the earliest faculty who charted the course for medical education in Galveston to those who have expanded the boundaries of multidisciplinary education, research, clinical care, and innovation.
As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, I am energized by the opportunity to write the next chapter of our institution’s history together. Our Academic Enterprise strategic plan outlines a bold vision for the next five years, guided by six pillars: Inspiration, Growth, Nurturing, Innovation, Teaching, and Excellence (IGNITE). I look forward to sharing the plan with our AE community — stay tuned.
Realizing that vision will require the same spirit of excellence, curiosity, and commitment that has defined UTMB for 135 years. Every member of the Academic Enterprise plays an essential role in advancing our missions and shaping our future. Together, we will build on an extraordinary legacy while creating new opportunities for discovery, learning, healing, and service.
Sincerely yours,
