November 2026 Message from the Senior Vice President, Provost, and Chief Academic Officer, UTMB

Dear Colleagues,

This time of year, as we focus on gratitude and appreciation, I am reflecting on all we have accomplished in 2026. I am so proud of all the amazing work we are doing – from expertly preparing learners for impactful careers to raising our national and international reputation across mission areas.

The FY26 Provost’s Report, now in progress, will detail these achievements and more. As we build toward its release, I’d like to share some key accomplishments from the Provost’s Office and academic support areas. These offices perform work that is critical to faculty and students’ success, supporting individuals across all areas of the Academic Enterprise. Starting with this edition, the newsletter will feature a section that highlights their remarkable achievements.

I am also excited to share the 2026-2031 Academic Enterprise Strategic Plan, entitled IGNITE. The six pillars – Inspiration, Growth, Nurturing, Innovation, Teaching, and Excellence – define an exciting vision for the next five years. Please take the time to review the report. All of our efforts, together, will bring this vision to reality,

Finally, in appreciation for your hard work and contributions, I am extending an invitation to all faculty members to enjoy a day of seasonal cheer on Wednesday, Dec. 16. We will serve refreshments in the Moody Medical Library Faculty Lounge at 8 a.m., 11:30 a.m. (our regularly scheduled faculty lunch) and 2:30 p.m. Please join me, your deans, and your colleagues as your schedule allows. I hope to see many of you there!

Sincerely yours,

Susan Chubinskaya, PhD, MS
