As the hub for all biomedical neuroscience at UTMB, MBHI aims to accelerate discoveries across Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, stroke, chronic pain, and more. It serves as UTMB’s anchor in the global brain economy movement.
Established in 2007, the Mitchell Center drives over $55 million in active grants and over 160 peer-reviewed publications focused on Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and related disorders.
Comprehensive clinical care for patients across the full spectrum of neurological illness, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, stroke, MS, and more. These clinics exist to serve communities across the region and translate research into real-world outcomes.
UTMB co-leads Project Metis, positioning the Houston/Galveston region as a global leader in brain health and the brain economy. The university also launched the Global Brain Economy initiative at the World Economic Forum in Davos and is the first institution in the world to make brain capital a core strategic priority.
