PSLF Program offers temporary waiver

Sep 6, 2022, 14:26 PM by Alexa Akim

Under a temporary waiver by the U.S. Department of Education, the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program will provide credit for any past loan payments.

This includes payments on Direct Loans, Federal Family Education Loans and Perkins Loans; payments made through any repayment plan; and payments that were late or for less than the amount due.

To be considered for the waiver:

  • You must have worked full time for a qualifying employer during the calendar month you were also in repayment on your loan. If you haven’t already done so, you’ll need to submit a PSLF form.
  • You must have at least one Direct Loan. If you have Federal Family Education Loans, Perkins Loans or other types of federal student loans, you must consolidate them into the Direct Loan Program.

The waiver is expected to end Oct. 31, 2022.
