The UTMB Health Institute for the Medical Humanities is pleased to welcome David Brenner, MA, PhD as a Visiting Scholar. Dr. Brenner will be in residence from June 2011 through July 2011.
Dr. Brenner teaches Comparative Literature and Jewish Studies at the University of Houston. He is the author of two books, Marketing Identities: The Invention of Jewish Ethnicity
(Wayne State University Press, 1998) and German-Jewish Popular Culture before the Holocaust
(Routledge, 2008). His current book project, Schindler's Shoah: Teaching the Holocaust in the Age of Globalization
, focuses on the pedagogy of genocide education. While interacting with students and faculty at the Institute for the Medical Humanities at UTMB, he will be specifically examining the challenges and opportunities of using the Holocaust as a paradigmatic case study for medical ethics.
