Can We Talk? Addressing Poor Behavior - December 11, 2017

The UTMB Professionalism Committee kicked off its FY18 series of workshops entitled Can We Talk? Addressing Poor Behavior on December 11, 2017.  The FY18 series is being offered to targeted audiences such as, supervisors and managers, staff and faculty, students, and residents and fellows. The workshops have been well received in the past with many of those in attendance stating, "Thank you. It was a very informative workshop and I enjoyed it." "Just make sure I get in the class. I was told this is an excellent class." The December 11th workshop even had an employee drive in from San Antonio.

The sessions employ many of the principles used by the Vanderbilt Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy for having a cup of coffee conversation. The training objectives are:

1. Describe the consequences of failing to address poor behavior in the workplace.

2. Recognize the purpose and intended outcome of the "Cup of Coffee" conversation.

3. Apply recommended techniques to stay focused on the message and respond to push-back behavior.

4. Identify opportunities to engage in Cup of Coffee conversations to encourage personal insight and self-improvement.
