Gina Lungu, MS, PhD, CPIA, joined UTMB in December 2023 to be the Director for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Dr. Lungu has over 25 years of combined experience in research regulations and compliance, animal research and administration. Prior to joining UTMB, Dr. Lungu was the Manager for the IACUC and Safety Committees (IBC, HSC and RSC) at Houston Methodist Research Institute where she provided administrative support and direct management of the committees, protocols review process, regulatory oversight and compliance with the institutional policies and federal regulations. Prior to that, she was a Senior Policy Analyst in the Research Compliance Services at Baylor College of Medicine where she provided IACUC regulatory compliance oversight, managed the post-approval monitoring process and for-cause assessments. 

Dr. Lungu earned her PhD degree in Microbiology at Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine, her Master of Science in Biology from Texas Woman’s University and Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from University of Bucharest.
