Melissa Eitzen, MLS(ASCP), MS, RQAP-GLP

Melissa Eitzen, MLS(ASCP), MS, RQAP-GLP, joined the UTMB family in January of 2001. Ms. Eitzen transitioned to the GLP Program Office Manager position in 2004 and has served as Director of Regulatory Operations for the Institutional Office of Regulated Nonclinical Studies (ORNcS) since January of 2011. The Regulatory Operations branch of ORNcS is part of the Office of Research Regulations and Compliance. Ms. Eitzen has over 39 years of laboratory and quality assurance experience, including laboratory development and accreditation, management, quality control, equipment validation, regulatory compliance and education development. 

Ms. Eitzen holds a Master of Science from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Bachelor of Science in medical technology from the Indiana University School of Medicine. She is a Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology and a registered Quality Assurance Professional in the GLP regulations (RQAP-GLP) and is a former president of the Society of Quality Assurance (SQA) and an honorary life member of the Research Quality Association (United Kingdom). 

 Outside of her professional role, she loves to travel, swim, read, attend theatrical productions and play the piano.
