General Psychiatry Residency Research Track

The UTMB Psychiatry Residency Research Track was created for residents who, in addition to obtaining excellent clinical training, also wish to advance their knowledge and experience with mentored research to develop the skillset for a career as a physician-scientist. No matter what career our research residents choose, be it academic faculty, health systems, industry, or research-oriented clinical programs, they will be prepared to advance discovery, improve clinical care, and lead the future of psychiatry.

Program Features:

  • Protected research time through all 4 years of training, integrated with clinical rotations.
  • Structured didactic curriculum, research skills training, certificate, and degree programs.
  • Faculty mentorship across psychiatry, neuroscience, population health, and translational medicine.
  • Opportunities to collaborate across a vast research network at UTMB.
  • Scholarly productivity with pathways to publish, as well as support for obtaining competitive early-career development awards.

How to Apply:

Those interested in the research track can choose this in their ERAS application by applying to our separate ERAS NRMP code 1714400C2.

The application process for the research track will include interviews with research faculty in addition to standard interviews with other faculty members and residents.

We are currently recruiting for one position for the 2026 - 2027 academic year.
