Sealy Center on Aging Trainee Receives NIA F31 Diversity Award

Congratulations to Mariela Gutierrez for receiving an F31 Diversity Award from the National Institute on Aging for her project "The Influence of Lifetime Occupational Experience on Cognitive Trajectories Among Mexican Older Adults." This award promotes diversity in health-related research. The 2-year pre-doctoral fellowship project will use data from the Mexican Health and Aging Study (MHAS). Ms. Gutierrez is a doctoral student in the Population Health Sciences program in the School of Public and Population Health (SPPH) at UTMB and has been a trainee in the T32 Health of Older Minorities program at the Sealy Center on Aging (SCOA) for 3 years. She is mentored by Rebeca Wong, PhD, and Brian Downer, PhD. Her application was supported by SPPH and SCOA staff.
