We are pleased to announce that Alan Landay, PhD, will serve as Director ad interim of the Sealy Center on Aging, effective May 1. Dr. Landay is Vice President of Team Science at UTMB and Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Microbiology & Immunology.
Prior to joining UTMB in February, Dr. Landay most recently served as Vice Chair of Research and Division Chief of Translational and Precision Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at Rush University.
Dr. Landay’s impressive career includes more than 42 years in HIV research, with significant work related to aging. His laboratory has made important original contributions in understanding the role of immune activation and inflammation in outcomes of non-communicable disease related to aging in the HIV population. Dr. Landay has extensive experience in aging-related studies and is co-investigator of an R33 grant that integrates efforts of the Center for AIDS Research, Older American Independence Centers and Shock Centers. He has participated on the Office of AIDS Research HIV and Aging Committee and has been an advisor to UN AIDS on HIV and Aging.
We greatly appreciate his leadership, and we thank him for taking on this important responsibility with our Sealy Center on Aging. We also extend our gratitude to Dr. Rebeca Wong for her past service as Director ad interim.
