MEXICAN HEALTH AND AGING STUDY (MHAS) The Mexican Health and Aging Study (MHAS) is a prospective panel study of health and aging in Mexico. The baseline survey, with national and urban/rural representation of adults born in 1951 or earlier, was conducted in the summer of 2001 (n=15,000) and follow-ups were fielded in 2003, 2012 and 2015. HEALTH AND RETIREMENT STUDY (HRS) The Health and Retirement Study (HRS) is a longitudinal study of the health, retirement, and aging of more than 22,000 Americans over age 50. The study is conducted by the University of Michigan and is available for researchers and analysts.
CHILE COGNITIVE AGING STUDY (CHILE-COG) The Chile Cognitive Aging Study (Chile-Cog) is designed to estimate cognitive function among Chilean adults ages 60 and above and its life-course determinants. The Chile-Cog protocol is modeled after the Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol (HCAP) developed by the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) and the Mexican Health and Aging (MHAS) Cognitive Aging Ancillary Study (Mex-Cog).
ESTUDO LONGITUDINAL DA SAÚDE DOS IDOSOS BRASILEIROS (ELSI-BRASIL) The Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSI) is a longitudinal and nationally representative survey of older adults in Brazil that started in 2015.
HEALTH, WELL-BEING, AND AGING IN LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES AND THE CARIBBEAN (SABE) Health, Well-being, and Aging in Latin American Countries and the Caribbean (SABE), (Salud, Bienestar y Envejecimiento en América Latina y el Caribe) is a cross-sectional survey on health and aging conducted in the following countries: Argentina, Barbados, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico and Uruguay. HEALTH AND NUTRITION NATIONAL SURVEY (ENSANUT) The Health and Nutrition National Survey (Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutricion) is a national survey from the National System of Health Surveys in Mexico. The database is the fusion of two previous surveys: ENSA 2000 and ENA 1999, health and nutrition surveys. The purpose of ENSANUT is to collect data on health, nutrition, and the health system among Mexicans. INSP has fielded the survey in 2000, 2006 and 2012.
HISPANIC ESTABLISHED POPULATIONS FOR EPIDEMIOLOGIC STUDIES OF THE ELDERLY (H-EPESE) The Hispanic Established Populations for Epidemiologic Studies of the Elderly (H-EPESE) is a longitudinal study of elderly Mexican American Health. The collection of data started on 1993; the focus of the study is on health status and health care needs of Mexican American elderly. NATIONAL ARCHIVE OF COMPUTERIZED DATA ON AGING (NACDA) National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA) is the largest library of electronic data on aging in the United States. The NACDA was funded by the National Institute on Aging at the University of Michigan. Its main purpose is to acquire and preserve data relevant to aging research.
Low and Middle Income Longitudinal Population Study Directory (LMIC LPS Directory) The Low and Middle Income Longitudinal Population Study Directory (LMIC LPS Directory) was developed by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), an independent microeconomic research institute in Britain, on behalf of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the Wellcome Trust. The LMIC LPS Directory aims to provide a resource for researchers interested in socio-economic and health circumstances and to enhance opportunities for international and interdisciplinary research collaboration. Its development has been supported by the Global Challenges Research Fund.
GATEWAY TO GLOBAL AGING DATA (G2AGING) The Gateway to Global Aging Data is a web-based resource for accessing harmonized panel data on aging, health, and retirement from the international family of Health and Retirement surveys.
DATABASES FOR SOCIAL ANALYSIS, MEXICO BDSocial is a public access site and digital collection that integrates Information and Datasets about Mexico. The objective is to provide a useful tool for the analysis and dissemination of socio-economic information. BDSocial integrates into its collection datasets and technical documents of surveys generated in the country, partly or totally financed by public funds, over the past years. Additionally, it includes survey projects created by academic institutions and civil society organizations in order to promote their dissemination. Each dataset survey is presented through a simple and homogeneous structure, questionnaires, technical sheets, and the syntax for using the data.
CENTRAL AMERICAN CENTER OF POPULATION (CCP) The Central American Center of Population (Centro Centroamericano de Poblacion, CCP) is a research center at the University of Costa Rica founded in 1993. The center is designed to enhance population research, training, and data dissemination. The center studies aspects of the Central American population and its actual and past demographic profile; a major area of research is aging.
REGIONAL SYSTEM OF AGING INDICATORS The Regional System of Aging Indicators (Sistema Regional de Indicadores Sobre Envejecimiento-SISE), developed by the CELADE (for its name in Spanish) Division of Population of the CEPAL, United Nations. The system includes indicators based on census data in order to examine aging and the well-being of older adults. The indicators can be disaggregated by sex, area of residence, and age group. The system allows to process the data and to obtain results in the form of tables, graphs, and maps.
HEALTHY OLDER ADULTS, AGING AND HEALTH IN THE AMERICAS PORTAL Healthy Older Adults, Aging and Health in the Americas Portal helps create a network of people and institutions committed to the health and welfare of older adults in the region through comprehensive services appropriate to their needs. The portal contributes with values, philosophy, and the content of the fundamentals and methods of scientific knowledge as the epistemic principle of aging in the region. It also provides tools and components that will help achieve the objectives and priorities for a healthy aging population in the Americas, integrating a public health perspective.
INSTITUTE OF AGING, COLOMBIA The Institute of Aging (Instituto de Envejecimiento) is one of the research centers at the Pontifical Xavierian University in Colombia. Its main purpose is to contribute in multidisciplinary aspects to the care of older adults. Since oldery population is growing faster in less-developed countries, their need for better care is crucial. The purpose of the institute is to develop tools to provide better care focus and a better quality of life for older adults in Colombia and Latin America. The WHO/PAHO Collaborating Center at UTMB has established collaborating research with this center mainly in the neurological aspects of aging. NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF GERIATRICS, MEXICO (INGER) The Institute of Geriatrics (Instituto Nacional de Geriatria, INGer) seeks to contribute to the strengthening of Mexico's National Health System through research and the education of human resources aimed at older adults, a segment of the population that is constantly growing. The institute also aims to become a point of reference for various lines of research in cooperation with a number of health and social security institutions, specialized and reference hospitals, and public assistance organizations.
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC HEALTH, MEXICO (INSP) The National Institute of Public Health (Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica, INSP) in Mexico is dedicated to the research and study of public health issues of Mexico.
