Christine Arcari, PhD, MPHChristine Arcari, PhD, MPH

Christine Arcari, PhD, MPH, a former member of the SCVD Executive Committee, is an Associate Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  She received her PhD in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and an MPH in Community and Family Health from the University of South Florida, College of Public Health.  Currently, Dr. Arcari serves as the Director of the Public Health Graduate Program which provides students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to succeed in careers that bridge medicine, research and public health.  Dr. Arcari has an extensive record of teaching, mentoring and promoting student success. The primary courses she teaches are "Introduction to Epidemiology" and "Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases".  In recognition of the quality of her educational efforts she was awarded the 2010, 2015 and 2016 UTMB Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Teaching Excellence Award for Population Health Sciences and holds a Distinguished Teaching Professor title for the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers.  Her scholarly activities are focused in the areas of creating healthier communities and public health education, with an emphasis on cultivating academic-practice partnerships. She has built strong academic-community partnerships as co-founder of the Research, Education and Community Health Coalition (REACH) community advisory board. This board brings together community leaders from Galveston County with UTMB scientists to inform research development and implementation across the translational spectrum and to impact community health and wellness through community intervention and dissemination of best practices.
