David L. Vines, PhD, MHS, RRT, FAARC, FCCP, serves as Senior Vice President and Dean of the School of Health Professions at The University of Texas Medical Branch.
An internationally recognized leader and pioneer in respiratory care, Dr. Vines has more than 30 years of experience in clinical practice, education, research, and academic leadership.
Dr. Vines earned a Master of Health Science in Clinical Physiology from LSU Medical Center and a PhD in Health Sciences from Rush University. Prior to joining UTMB, he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences and Associate Dean for Clinical Integration and Interdisciplinary Initiatives at Rush University.
He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts, contributed to book chapters and invited presentations, and secured research support in the areas of mechanical ventilation, cardiopulmonary monitoring, critical care outcomes, patient safety, and respiratory care education.
Dr. Vines served on the National Board for Respiratory Care for 16 years and is a former president of the organization. He is a Fellow of both the American Association for Respiratory Care and the American College of Chest Physicians. His honors include the American Association for Respiratory Care’s Sister Mary Yvonne Jenn, CRNA, RRT, Lifetime Achievement Award.
