Dr. Gupta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Data Science at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He has vast experience in developing and applying novel computational methods on diverse datasets. His current research focuses on developing multimodal, reliable, and transparent Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods and tools to translate healthcare data into actionable insights, improving patient outcomes across various diseases. The overarching goal of his research is to develop the computational methods and tools required to organize, process, and transform health care data into actionable knowledge, along with considerations of explainability, and fairness.
Dr. Gupta received his PhD in computer science from Texas Tech University where his research was focused on developing an adaptive and scalable Big stream data pre-processing approach that leverages AI techniques, adaptable to different data rates and data types, and deployable in large-scale distributed systems. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow after his PhD in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Division at the University of Michigan (U-M) Medical School where his research was focused on leveraging novel mobile health (mHealth) applications and wearable sensors to support health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in family caregivers of patients undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT).
Previously, he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science ad Data Science at Meharry Medical College within the School of Applied Computational Sciences. He served as a PI in American Cancer Society (ACS) DCRIDG pilot award, NIH AIM-AHEAD CDP, NSF Expand AI CAP, RCMI supplement and Co-I in NSF MRI and NASA MEUREP awards. He received Researcher of the Year award in Meharry Medical College. Dr. Gupta has published more than 30 papers at reputed international journals and conferences including Cell, JMIR, IEEE sensors and in top international conferences sponsored by IEEE, and ACM.
