The PhD curriculum consists of 45 credits of coursework,
including 4 required classes:
- Introduction to Health Humanities
- Foundations of Bioethics
- Interdisciplinary Methods in Bioethics and Health Humanities
- Landmark Health Cases and Movements
After coursework, students take a written and oral qualifying examination before beginning work on their dissertation. Students orally defend their completed dissertation.
The entire PhD is designed to be completed in 4 – 5 years.
For interested medical students, we coordinate plans of study leading to MD/PhD degrees as part of UTMB's MD/PhD Combined Degree Program.
