UTMB Makes History with First Uniportal Robotic Lobectomies in the US April 9, 2024 The University of Texas Medical Branch marks a significant breakthrough in the field of thoracic surgery as Dr. Roman Petrov, professor of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, successfully performed the first robotic lobectomies in the United States with a single port of entry. Dr. Klimberg Featured in Forbes Article March 21, 2024 Dr. V. Suzanne Klimberg and colleagues have developed an initiative to address the lack of mammogram capabilities in rural areas by creating a form of breast cancer screening using tears. New Publication: Surgical Sciences March 7, 2024, 13:45 PM by John Carstens Erick Ditmars (MS4) and Dr. William Fagg’s article, “Amniotic Membrane Resolves Treatment-Resistant Chronic Wounds: Evidence from a Multi-Center Retrospective Study Journal of Wound Care,” was accepted by the Journal of Wound Care. Dr. Konofos and Dr. Marwan Co-Authored a Research Article for Biomedicines March 22, 2024, 15:11 PM by John Carstens Dr. Petros Konofos and and Dr. Hisham Marwan co-authored a research article titled: “Odontogenic Sarcomas of the Mandible” for the journal Biomedicines. Dr. Klimberg Co-Authors a Leading Textbook in Surgery January 17, 2024, 14:33 PM by John Carstens Dr. V. Suzanne Klimberg co-authored “Fisher’s | Mastery of Surgery, Eighth Edition” which was recently published. Dr. Klimberg applied her vast knowledge of breast oncology to the manuscript. Honors & Awards Debra Burkley featured as a ‘Woman of Influence’ in Galveston Daily News April 1, 2024 Debra Burkley was recently featured as a 2024 Woman of Influence by the Galveston Daily News. Dr. Den Receives Thayer Award January 11, 2024 Jennifer Den, MD received the Fall 2023 Thayer Award for Excellence in Teaching from the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine. Dr. Radhakrishnan Learns from National Surgical Leaders April 3, 2024 As a recipient of the 2021 American Surgical Association (ASA) and Society of University Surgeons (SUS) Surgical Leaders Fellowship Grant, Dr. Radhakrishnan has submitted a report to the Association outlining what he learned while visiting nationally-recognized surgical chairs in the fall of 2023. Learning From the Giants February 7, 2024 Dr. Andi Cummins won a travel scholarship to attend the yearly Plastic Surgery The Meeting 2023 in Austin, Texas and shared her takeaways from the meeting.
