The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) plans significant closures of Interstate 45 this weekend in the League City area that could impact access to the UTMB Health League City Campus, the UTMB Health Clear Lake Campus and other clinics in our region. The closure is also likely to cause traffic congestion and lengthy delays for those traveling to and from Galveston.
According to its website, TxDOT plans to fully close I-45—both northbound and southbound lanes—between FM 518 and the NASA Bypass from 6 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 10. The closure is necessary to prepare for the opening of the expansion to four lanes in both directions from FM 517 to the NASA Bypass.
During the closure, motorists traveling northbound and southbound on I-45 will have to use the FM 518 exit, continue on the frontage road and then re-enter the interstate at the next available on-ramp.
In addition, beginning at noon on Saturday, June 10, the northbound lanes of I-45 from state Highway 96 to the NASA Bypass will be reduced to two alternating lanes until 5 a.m., Monday, June 12 so TxDOT can complete work on overhead freeway signage.
As always, highway work is weather-dependent and closures may be adjusted accordingly. Please review the sources above or links below for updates and road conditions, and allow additional time if needed to reach your destination:
