UTMB names Sheffield-Moore senior VP, dean of Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) named Dr. Melinda Sheffield-Moore as senior vice president and dean of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.

Sheffield-Moore will start her new position in February.

Since August 2017, Sheffield-Moore has served as a Texas A&M University professor and head of the Department of Health and Kinesiology, the university’s largest academic department. She concurrently held an adjunct professor appointment at UTMB in the Department of Internal Medicine.

Previously, she was a full-time UTMB faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine and the Cell Biology Graduate Program in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Her many leadership roles at UTMB included as director of Translational Technologies Key Resource for the Institute of Translational Sciences and program director of the Human Clinical Research Center.

Sheffield-Moore’s clinical research on aging, cancer, space flight and traumatic brain injury has been funded by the National Institute on Aging, National Cancer Institute, NASA and private foundation grants.

“She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role of senior vice president and dean of our Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and we look forward to her contributions,” said Dr. Charles P. Moulton, executive vice president, provost and dean of UTMB School of Medicine.
