UTMB School of Nursing ranks in top 10 online programs in the nation

The University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing came in 10th in the country in the U.S. News & World Report 2023 Best Online Master’s in Nursing Programs rankings released today.

“Our UTMB School of Nursing prides itself on the strong commitment we’ve made, and continue to make, to student success and to preparing nurses to provide competent and compassionate care,” said Dr. Deborah J. Jones, dean of the school and interim provost of UTMB. “We are thrilled to be ranked No. 10 nationally, but I am happy to say that it isn’t a surprise. This is only one testament of how we meet our commitment to training nurses to provide the best care.”

The 2023 Best Online Programs rankings include UTMB School of Nursing in two other categories. The school is ranked at No. 4 for veterans and at No. 10 for its Family Nurse Practitioner program.

The rankings rated distance education programs on a scale. Each had to perform well on a multitude of factors – including program reputation, faculty credentials, retention rates and graduate debt loads – to earn a qualifying Best Online Programs ranking.

“Our focus on creating and maintaining a healthy work environment for our faculty, staff and students allows for the infrastructure and support we need to be the best,” Jones said. “Our culture fosters high-impact research for our faculty and creates the space for our students to learn and innovate. This recognition is a strong testament to the hard work of our faculty who educate the next generation of nurses and scientists, and to our students for their passion and drive to become leaders in their field. We have proudly educated nurses for more than 130 years, and I am pleased that our commitment and successes are recognized nationally.”

UTMB School of Nursing graduates more than 550 students each year and has more than 15,000 alumni worldwide.
