Dr. Jerry A. Mansfield hired as chief nursing executive

Dr. Gulshan Sharma, senior vice president and chief medical & clinical innovation officer at the University of Texas Medical Branch, announced today that Dr. Jerry A. Mansfield has accepted the position of vice president and system chief nursing executive at UTMB effective Feb. 1, 2024.

“Dr. Mansfield’s dedication to nursing excellence has been evident over the course of his career.” Sharma said. “He has held various roles in nursing at Ohio’s Mount Carmel Health System, the Medical University of South Carolina and The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center."

Mansfield is an experienced executive in staff engagement, quality and safety, harm reduction and patient experience. He is a nationally recognized leader and an active member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

“I am confident that his addition to our outstanding team at UTMB Health will achieve even greater results for our Best Care initiatives,” Sharma said.

Mansfield began his practice after receiving a diploma in nursing from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Toledo, Ohio. He then earned his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Xavier University in Cincinnati and both a Master of Science in nursing and doctorate in public health from The Ohio State University.
