University of Texas Medical Branch John Sealy School of Medicine students Mallory Walters and Leonard Wang recently were announced as Fulbright Program Scholars.

Walters is a student in the Joint Admission Medical Program, a highly selective pipeline program that supports outstanding Texas students in pursuing medical careers.

Having previously taught English while studying abroad in Granada, Spain, Walters will move to Asturias, Spain, for nine months to act as an English teaching assistant for students of all ages.

Walters said her goal is to hone her communication skills for her future practice as a physician and strengthen her cross-cultural competence, enabling her to connect with and reach patients of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Wang, a medicine and public health dual-degree student, will pursue a Master of Science degree in Health and Social Policy at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Following his Fulbright year in Glasgow, Wang said, he plans to pursue a Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England, during the 2025-2026 academic year.
