The Coastal Region includes the eight coastal counties including Brazoria, Chambers, Hardin, Liberty, Galveston, Jefferson, Matagorda, and Orange County.  Over 1.2 million people live in the Coastal Region. While a large portion of them live in the few metropolitan areas, many live in the vast rural areas surrounding those cities.  The leading industries include healthcare, chemical plants, education and agriculture.  The region is home to Lamar University, University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and Texas A&M University Galveston along with multiple excellent community colleges.  Coastal partners with community based, educational and healthcare agencies throughout the region to address the health needs of those we serve.
