Blackboard FAQs

How do I log in Blackboard?

Go to https://eclass.utmb.edu. User your UTMB-USES-M login and password to log into Blackboard. If you need help with your password, call the Help Desk at (409) 772-5200 or email ishelp@utmb.edu.

Can I use Blackboard from home?

Yes, Blackboard is accessible from any computer with Internet access.

Are there any file naming rules that I should be aware of?

File names can NOT contain any special characters including (but not limited to): # $ & % ! { } [ ] ( ) /

Acceptable file names include upper and lower case letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores only (A-Z, a-z, 0-9, -, _ ). Due to current Blackboard functionality, the file name must be under 72 characters long. File names that are over that length will be accepted by Blackboard, but errors will be encountered when the instructor attempts to download them for grading. For best results, please do not use spaces in your file names.

What type of files can I upload to Blackboard?

Almost any type of file can be uploaded to Blackboard including Word, PowerPoint, html, PDF, plain text, rtf, audio and video files.

Is there a spellcheck feature in Blackboard for me to use?

Blackboard includes spell check in all text boxes.

What should I do if a student cannot see his/her class?

Make sure that you have made the class available.

If the student cannot login at all, or is unable to locate the course in his/her account, have the student contact the Student Help Desk at (409) 772-5200 or email ishelp@utmb.edu.

How do I print something from Blackboard?

Because Blackboard Learn is web-based, printing is handled through whatever internet browser you are using. Sometimes you can right-click the area that you want to print and look for a message similar to "Print This Frame." Most browsers have a Help option that can explain more about printing.

If the course content is an attached file, such as a Word document, you can open the document and print it from that program.

How to clear my browser's cache?
Internet Explorer 8
  • Click Tools menu
  • Click Delete Browsing History
  • Select Temporary Internet Files
  • Click the Delete button near the bottom of the window to delete your temporary files (i.e. clear your cache)
  • Click Firefox menu on the top left corner. Next, select the right arrow next to History, and click Clear Recent History
  • Make sure Details is expanded, then select Cache from the list
  • In the Time range to clear drop down, select Everything
  • Select Clear Now
Chrome v10+
  • Open the settings on Chrome. Click the menu icon in the upper right corner of the browser to the right. Click settings on the bottom of the menu
  • From settings, click Show advanced settings.... It's located at the very bottom of the settings section
  • Scroll to the privacy section and click Clear browsing data
  • Select Empty the cache. Uncheck all other options to avoid deleting browser history, cookies and other things you may wish to retain. Change Obliterate the following items from to the beginning of time
  • Press Clear browsing data
