Science That Sticks: PowerPoint Strategies for Clear, Compelling Presentations

PowerPoint is the typical software used to present scientific information to groups – whether to your own lab or at conferences. Typically, these PowerPoint slide decks and posters need to accomplish two conflicting tasks. On the one hand, they need to convey the complexity, depth, and significance of the research without engaging in superficial summaries. On the other hand, the PowerPoint presentation needs to be easily and quickly understood, both for experts in the field as well as sophisticated non-experts.

The Office of Faculty of Affairs (OFA) and the Advancing Research through Mentorship (ARM) program invite you to an interactive seminar that will provide a memorable methodology to create PowerPoint slide decks and posters that are:

  • Well structured - with a clear logic that multiple audiences will understand, even as slides address complex science content
  • Deliverable - easy to use in a stand-up presentation, projected on a screen or displayed as a poster
  • Stand-alone - easy for a reader to understand as a stand-alone document, particularly read by someone who didn’t attend the presentation
