October 2024 Message from the Executive Vice Provost

Dear colleagues,

I hope that everyone is enjoying the beginning of fall and the cooler temperatures that have recently reached us.

We were overjoyed to celebrate faculty excellence at UTMB’s inaugural Faculty Recognition Reception on Sept. 5. We had an outstanding turnout of honorees, leaders, and faculty members from all schools. Photos from the event, our winner spotlight video, and our event booklet are posted online. Please take the time to view them if you have not already. We are also happy that photos of our winners were published in the Galveston County Daily News on Sept. 5.

Again, congratulations to our award recipients, and thank you to all who attended and made this a special event for so many! I have no doubt we will have many more worthy achievements throughout FY25 to celebrate.

We have also been delighted by the positive response to our new event, Afternoon Tea with Faculty Affairs Leaders. It has been wonderful to see our faculty members embracing these opportunities to get to know their colleagues and leadership. Thanks to Dr. Salim Hayek, last month’s guest, for an insightful and very passionate conversation. You will have more opportunities to meet other leaders in the upcoming months.

I am pleased to share that we have finalized the John Sealy School of Medicine Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure guidelines update. These guidelines apply to appointments and promotions for tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track faculty; clinical practice track guidelines are currently in development. Thank you to everyone who provided input as we worked toward the final version. Along with guidelines we posted a new CV template for the JSSOM faculty as well as templates for supporting documents. We are very happy we can improve processes to benefit our faculty and support your success.

Sincerely,
Susan Chubinskaya, PhD, MS, FIOR
Vice President and Executive Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
